The comprehensive mine health and safety training program for the miners, mine operators, supervisors, and contract employees working at mining operations is provided by the Nevada Department of Business and Industry through the Division of Industrial Relations, Mine Safety and Training Section. Pre-scheduled and unscheduled classes and safety meetings are conducted on the mine sites. Classes include:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training (surface and underground);
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training (surface and underground);
  • 30 CFR part 49 Mine Rescue Training;
  • Mine Electricity, Hazard Recognition and Regulations;
  • MSHA Approved Mine Instructor Training;
  • 30 CFR parts 56 & 57 Training;
  • Incident Command Training;
  • Confined Space Entry Program;
  • Abandoned Mines Hazard Recognition Program;
  • Industrial Hygiene Training Program (Basic and Advanced);
  • Industrial Hygiene - General/Diesel;
  • Respiratory Protection;
  • Hazardous Materials Training Program;
  • Cyanide Safety Training Program;
  • Health Hazard Prevention Program;
  • Haulage Safety and Awareness Program;
  • Ventilation in Underground Mines Program;
  • Ground Control (surface and underground); and
  • Supervisory Responsibilities Program.

The Mine Safety and Training Section also conducts mine safety and health inspections, conducts health surveys, provides consultations and technical assistance ranging from training program development to ventilation, boiler and pressure vessel inspection, industrial hygiene, and implements problem solving techniques and approaches to the many health and safety issues encountered in the Nevada mines.
