State of Missouri Program Summary

Box 449 Jefferson City, MO 65102-0449 The Missouri Mine Safety and Health Training Program has committed itself to the task of reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities through quality training, education and assistance to the miners, mine owners, especially at small mining operations, and contractors working in or around the State's mines and caves. Missouri's program enlists mine management to actively participate in the preparation and presentation of classes for their mines. Missouri intends to ask each mine to participate in the Instructor Training Program in order to reach the program's goal of having a Certified MSHA Instructor on site at each mine. Labor unions and miners are encouraged to join and participate in the Holmes Safety Association. The Missouri program focuses on providing training in the areas of on-the-job training, Black Lung disease where there is a potential problem, and the prevention of drowning accidents and awareness of water hazards, contractors awareness of training requirements, awareness of miners' rights.
