Call for Innovative Ideas To Advance Prevention, Treatment, and Cure of Type 1 Diabetes

The NIDDK greatly appreciates the input from the scientific community in response to its Request for Information (NOT-DK-04-013) to solicit innovative ideas to advance prevention, treatment and cure of type 1 diabetes. Submissions were received from August 31 through October 22, 2004; the period to submit ideas is now over. The NIDDK will now discuss the ideas it received with an ad hoc planning and evaluation panel as part of the process guiding use of the Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research. As noted in the NIDDK's initial request for ideas, this material is not being treated as confidential or proprietary. It is possible that innovative ideas emanating from the planned discussions may be used in the general conceptual planning of future endeavors; however, no funds are being allocated for this pre-solicitation phase.
