St. Paul’s Mayor, Chris Coleman, will kick off the opening of the Minnesota section of the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) on June 6, 2009 with a ribbon cutting celebration at Chestnut Plaza.

Shortly after the MRT grand opening ceremony, there will be a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the newly restored City House (once called Head House), which includes a bike pavilion at the river's edge.

After the City House ribbon cutting and tour, a Bike to a Ranger bike ride will be held. The ride follows a 9 mile loop from downtown Saint Paul, across the Highway 5 bridge over the Mississippi River, through Lilydale Regional Park and back to the starting point at Chestnut Plaza. National Park Service rangers will be stationed along the route to answer questions and talk about the natural and cultural history of the area.
