State Agencies Tennessee
The
Tennessee Department of Education collaborates with the Tennessee Department
of Health, state universities, and youth-serving organizations to implement
workshops, trainings, and institutes. Tennessee receives funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education
and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).
Tennessee's Program In Action
Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Conducting three regional institutes for family life educators on
HIV prevention education, HIV laws and policies, and science-based
curricula through a reorganized Teacher Training Center.
- Developing partnerships with community-based organizations and
increasing their capacity to deliver high-quality effective HIV
prevention education to youth in high-risk situations.
- Revising the Family Life Education curriculum with classroom
teachers and submitting the expanded curriculum to the Tennessee State
Board of Education for approval.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Working with Eastern Tennessee State University to conduct trainings
for middle school personnel on implementing a successful Youth Risk
Behavior Survey in their schools.
- Publishing a report of the YRBS results and distributing it
statewide.
- Developing an implementation plan for conducting a high school YRBS
and revising an accompanying handbook to aid local survey
administrators.
