State Agencies Indiana
Indiana
receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to
provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
(YRBS). The goal of the Indiana HIV prevention education program is to
improve the delivery, effectiveness, and sustainability of HIV/STD and
unintended pregnancy prevention education for school age youth.
Indiana's Program In Action
Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Providing training, resources, and technical assistance for staff
working in schools that serve a high number of youth at disproportionate
risk for HIV and STDs to increase their capacity to implement HIV
prevention education that is culturally appropriate, medically accurate,
and aligned to Indiana’s health education standards.
- Partnering with the Social Health Association of Indiana to conduct
HIV prevention education workshops for parents.
- Expanding the capacity of the HIV prevention training cadre by
providing training enrichment opportunities, resources, and information
updates.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collaborating with the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation
Program to jointly administer the YRBS and the Youth Tobacco Survey to
students in grades 9-12.
- Developing fact sheets and electronic resources to communicate the
results of the YRBS.
- Disseminating the results of the YRBS to schools, local health
agencies, institutions of higher education, non-governmental agencies,
and other stakeholders.
