EB/CIP works to: Open overseas markets to expand business opportunities for U.S. telecommunications and information technology companies and to create jobs at home; Expand the availablility to consumers of new technologies by advancing U.S. standards in standard-setting organizations, such as the International Telecommunication Union; Promote competition in telecommunications markets, liberalization of regulations, and privatization of state-owned service providers in multilateral fora such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; Promote global infrastructure growth and competition, and resolve specific regulatory, technical, or trade issues in bilateral meetings with individual foreign governments.
