Chairman names Robert Solomon new FERC Solicitor

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Joseph T. Kelliher today announced the appointment of Robert H. Solomon, a 17-year veteran Commission staffer, as the Commission's new Solicitor.

As Solicitor, Mr. Solomon is responsible for defending the Commission's orders and initiatives before the U.S. Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Solomon, Deputy Solicitor since September 2001 and Acting Solicitor since November 2005, has presented oral argument before the Courts of Appeals on behalf of the Commission approximately 50 times.

"We are fortunate to have Bob to defend the Commission's decisions and policies during judicial review. I am confident he will maintain a good win-loss record in the courts," Chairman Kelliher said.

Before becoming Deputy Solicitor, Mr. Solomon served as Legal Adviser to Curt L. Hébert, a Commissioner and Chairman of the Commission. From 1998 through 2000, Mr. Solomon served as Legal Advisor to former Commissioner Vicky A. Bailey. From 1988 through 1998, Mr. Solomon worked in the Commission's Office of General Counsel, initially as an appellate attorney in the Solicitor's Office and later as Deputy Assistant General Counsel, managing a staff of 20-30 attorneys in the development of Commission orders and policy.

Prior to joining the Commission in 1988, Mr. Solomon was an associate attorney at Newman & Holtzinger, a Washington, D.C., law firm specializing in energy and regulatory matters.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Solomon received his law degree from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, and has a B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
