Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge named

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Joseph T. Kelliher has announced the appointment of Judge Lawrence Brenner as Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge.

"I'm pleased that Judge Brenner has accepted this position. His extensive background in energy law, along with his exemplary work in mediating some particularly difficult cases, has proved invaluable to the Commission," Chairman Kelliher said.

As Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge, Judge Brenner will assist Chief Administrative Law Judge Curtis Wagner, Jr. with administrative and managerial duties in the Office of Administrative Law Judges and serve as head of the office in the Chief Judge's absence.

Judge Brenner joined the Commission as an administrative law judge in December 1994. From 1986 to 1994, Judge Brenner served as an administrative law judge with the U.S. Department of Labor.

From 1981 to 1986, Judge Brenner was an administrative judge with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He was awarded a Congressional Fellowship in 1985, and, on leave as a judge, worked with the United States Congress, primarily on energy and environmental issues.

Judge Brenner is past President of the Federal Administrative Law Judges Conference and the Forum of U.S. Administrative Law Judges.

A native of New York, Judge Brenner is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law.
