The United States is deeply concerned by the recent political violence in Madagascar. We call on Madagascar’s leaders and the Malagasy people to exercise restraint and avoid all further violence. We urge an immediate resumption of dialogue among the principal political actors and the government. The United States reaffirms its commitment to Madagascar’s democratic development, emphasizing that calm and dialogue be restored in order to effectively pursue development. We expect all parties in this conflict to respect the constitution of Madagascar as they try to resolve their political differences.
