Park/Emergency Brakes on Battery Powered Machines
On March 11, 2008, Sandvik issued a Safety Bulletin, Park/Emergency Brake Retrofit Kit and Test Procedure for Battery Powered Machines. The safety bulletin was issued due to a MICO park/emergency brake found in a dry condition in an Eimco Coal Hauler. The park/emergency brake was designed to be used wet with hydraulic oil as the coolant. The safety bulletin affects all 508CS, 518CS, and 580CS battery powered machines and all MICO park brakes supplied under part number 3210166 by EIMCO, EJC or Sandvik (MICO model number 13-547-420). The safety bulletin can be accessed below. Please contact your local Sandvik representative for the field retrofit kit and/or more information and questions.

Equipment Hazard Alert Posted
Alert for Cap Lamps that Use Lead-Acid Batteries
Users of cap lamps powered by lead-acid batteries need to be aware of a potential possibility of explosions involving the batteries. There have been reports over the last five years of four lead-acid batteries experiencing an ignition of hydrogen gas that has ruptured the battery case.
