Regional Programs

The Regional Programs Division manages programs outside of the Washington, D.C. area, including liaison with civic and foreign policy groups; As liaison to many organizations across the country, this division promotes opportunities for dialogue between U.S. Department of State policymakers and the American public to improve public awareness of and involvement in the Department and its work. The Regional Programs staff encourages such dialogue through:

Programs

• Hometown Diplomat Program 
  State Department employees to volunteer their time during travel to their hometowns to speak publicly with local organizations and students through the Hometown Diplomats program.

• Foreign Affairs Campus Coordinator Program
  State Department Interns to volunteer and help organize events, including speaking engagements and videoconferences for Department officials in classrooms or at campus conferences to inform faculty and student organizations about opportunities to engage the State Department on foreign policy;

Public Outreach

The Regional Programs Division sends U.S. Department of State officials around the country to address conferences and civic organizations, meet with community leaders, and speak at academic institutions. These public outreach programs are arranged to accommodate full- or half-day agendas and encourage the free exchange of information and opinions with a broad cross-section of groups in the community.

How can my organization request a speaker?

To arrange for a State Department speaker to address your organization, please submit an online speaker request form.   Please allow a minimum of 14 days to arrange for a speaker.

Videoconferences

The Office of Public Liaison schedules discussions via videoconference with associations, civic organizations, and educational institutions across the United States. These discussions feature State Department officials who are able to communicate information about current U.S. foreign policy issues.
