U.S. Census Bureau’s National Processing Center
Celebrates 50th Anniversary
- What:
- The U.S. Census Bureau, along with state and local officials, will mark
the 50th anniversary of its National Processing Center in Jeffersonville,
Ind.
The National Processing Center opened its doors on July 1, 1958, as a temporary facility to prepare and process work for the censuses of business, manufacturers and minerals industry, and the 1960 Census. Fifty years later, NPC has grown into an ultramodern data processing facility that is now one of the largest employers in Southern Indiana. For the 2010 Census, it is expected to process more than 60 million questionnaires.
