Kids
and tractors do not mix.
Tractors
are designed for only one operator and no passengers. That
rule especially applies to children, whose lighter body weight
makes them the first thing to be bumped off a tractor during
a rough ride. Children also can distract the driver or limit
the operator's vision.
Last
year, tractors accounted for three out of every five farm
fatalities. Injuries occur when the tractor rolls over, passengers
fall off the tractor, or the tractor runs over a bystander.
An enclosed cab (with a rollover protective structure) will
reduce your chance of injury, but it cannot reduce risk of
injury for the extra passenger.
A child
may plead for tractor rides, but don't give in. Transport
these precious passengers in a car or pick-up truck. The facts
show we lose too many children on tractors.
