Census Bureau Names New Race and Ethnicity Advisory Committee Members — New members to take their seats at spring meeting of advisory committee May 5-7 in Arlington, Va. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Ancestry 2000 — In addition to national-level results, this report also lists the five largest ancestries at the regional and state levels and the single largest ancestry in each of the 10 largest U.S. cities. A thematic map illustrates the geographic distribution of the largest ancestry groups across all counties. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 16.)

Is There a Gender Gap in Earnings? A Look at Evidence from Census 2000 on Earnings by Occupation — A special tabulation of the number and percentage of men and women in 505 civilian occupations nationwide, matched with median and average earnings data. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 16.)

Disability and American Families: 2000 — Information on disability prevalence in families at the national, regional and state levels, with data on family income, employment status of the family householder and poverty status of families with a member who has a disability. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 23.)

 

Non-Census

Facts for Features (Special Edition): 53rd Anniversary of the UNIVAC Computer — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas examining how the computer has become ingrained in American society. (Scheduled for release on May 3.)

Facts for Features (Special Edition): 40th Anniversary of Civil Rights Act — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas depicting the progress African-Americans have made since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. (Scheduled for release on May 3.)

Facts for Features: The Fourth of July — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas related to the celebration of July 4th. (Scheduled for release on May 4.)

Local Employment Dynamics: A Profile of Older Workers — These reports focus on older workers by industry, their age, job gains and losses, the industries in which they are concentrated, their job stability and earnings. (Iowa and New Mexico, tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2; California and Missouri, tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 9.)

Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Labor Force Turnover, 1996-1999 — A national report looks at the size, speed and direction of labor force turnover and its components, how monthly turnover varies and the average turnover rates for major industry and occupation groups. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 9.)

Next Wave of Interviewing in Survey of Income and Program Participation — In June, interviewers will visit a national sample of randomly selected households to ask about program participation, health insurance coverage, employment, income and other topics. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 23.)

Facts for Features: Americans with Disabilities — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas about people with disabilities; release timed to coincide with the 14th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 23.)

 

Economic

2002 Economic Census of Island Areas: Northern Mariana Islands — Number of establishments, employees, shipments, revenue and payroll. This is the first use of NAICS codes in the census of the island areas. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

2002 Economic Census: Nonemployer Statistics — The 2002 Economic Census collected information on about 24 million businesses. This is a preliminary, national-level look at more than 17 million firms with no paid employees. Information includes the percentage of “mom and pop” firms in several industry sectors. Data include the number of establishments by industry and their proportion of total businesses and receipts. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 9.)

2003 State Government Tax Collections — Tax collections by category, e.g., severance taxes, occupation and business licenses, individual income taxes, general sales taxes and property taxes, for the nation and states. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 9.)

Profile America and Al Dia (Spanish) for May — May’s Profile America segments include National Pet Week (May 3) and the invention of the odometer (May 12). (Scheduled for release on April 30.)

World War II Veterans — A collection of data links, story ideas and digital media tools for use in reporting and publishing news features about America’s veterans. (Scheduled for release on May 17.)

Television

World War II Veterans VNR — A broadcast feature roll-in highlights Census Bureau data about America’s veterans. Includes interviews with Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon; Maj. Gen. Christopher Cortez of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command and World War II vets. The VNR will be available for online preview and ordering via the Census Bureau home page <http://www.census.gov>. (Scheduled for release on May 17.)
