Census Bureau Testing Handheld Computers in New York — The next phase of the 2004 Census Test, nonresponse follow-up begins April 24 in New York and Georgia. The Census Bureau will use handheld computers, rather than paper and pencil, to collect information from nonrespondents in the test areas. (Tentatively scheduled for release April 23.)

Is There a Gender Gap in Earnings? A Look at Evidence from Census 2000 on Earnings by Occupation — A special tabulation of the number and percentage of men and women in 505 civilian occupations nationwide, matched with median and average earnings data. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Facts for Features: Asian Pacific American Heritage Month — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas about the Asian and Pacific islander population whose heritage is celebrated in May. (Scheduled for release on April 19.)

Facts for Features: Older Americans Month — Data from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas about the 65-and-over population, which is recognized in May. (Scheduled for release on April 20.)

Facts for Features (Special Edition): Cinco de Mayo — Data from Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas about one of America’s most popular Latino celebrations, Cinco de Mayo, which pays tribute to Mexico’s cultural heritage. (Scheduled for release on April 21.)

Facts for Features (Special Edition): Teacher Appreciation Week — Data from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas celebrating the nation’s educators. (Scheduled for release on April 22.)

Facts for Features: Dedication of National World War II Memorial — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas commemorating those who served in World War II. Pegged to the May 29 dedication of the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. (Scheduled for release on May 3.)

Interviewing for American Housing Survey — Starting on April 26 and continuing for the next seven months, Census Bureau field representatives will visit selected housing units in 13 metropolitan areas. Residents will be asked about the size, composition and condition of their homes, their financial and demographic characteristics and the livability of their neighborhoods. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 18.)

Facts for Features: Father’s Day — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas for Father’s Day 2004. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Labor Force Turnover, 1996-1999 — A national report looks at the size, speed and direction of labor force turnover and its components, how monthly turnover varies and the average turnover rates for major industry and occupation groups. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

Facts for Features: Mother’s Day — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Mother’s Day 2004. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

Local Employment Dynamics: A Profile of Older Workers in Iowa — This report focuses on Iowa’s older workers by industry, their age, job gains and losses, in which industries they are concentrated, their job stability and earnings. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

Facts for Features (Special Edition): 53rd Anniversary of the UNIVAC Computer — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas examining how the computer has become ingrained in American society. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Facts for Features (Special Edition): 40th Anniversary of Civil Rights Act — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas depicting the progress African-Americans have made since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Facts for Features: The Fourth of July — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas related to the celebration of July 4th. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Economic

2002 Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey — State reports on light and heavy trucks, minivans and sports utility vehicles, issued on a flow basis and culminating in a U.S. summary this summer. Information includes fuel efficiency, annual mileage, model year, primary range of operation, permanent equipment and other physical and operational characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 18.)

2002 Economic Census of Island Areas: Northern Mariana Islands — Detailed statistics on number of establishments, employees, shipments, revenue and payroll. This is the first use of NAICS codes in the census of these island areas. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

Transit and Ground Passenger Transportation — The first of more than 650 industry and industry group reports from the 2002 Economic Census. Tables present national-level data on number of establishments, revenue, annual payroll and number of paid employees. Data by product lines and, for largest firms, concentration information also provided. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of April 25.)

2002 Economic Census: Nonemployer Statistics — The 2002 Economic Census collected information on about 24 million businesses. This is a preliminary, national-level look at more than 17 million firms with no paid employees. Information includes the percentage of “mom and pop” firms in several industry sectors. Data include the number of establishments and their proportion of all businesses and receipts. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 2.)

Profile America and Al Dia (Spanish) for May — Profile America segments include Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May 2), Mother’s Day (May 9) and Memorial Day (May 30). (Tentatively scheduled for release on April 30.)

Older Americans Month and Cinco de Mayo (Updates) — The Census Bureau provides an updated look at the Mexican and the elderly populations in the United States. The pages have been reformatted and new data tables, links and one-minute radio features have been added. (Scheduled for release on April 20 and April 21.)
