United States Ambassador to APEC Patricia Haslach welcomes the appointment of Deborah Henretta, Group President for Asia at The Procter & Gamble Company, and Peter Scher, Executive Vice President for Global Government Relations and Public Policy at JPMorgan Chase, to the United States Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council (ABAC). Henretta and Scher join current U.S. ABAC member Nick Reilly, President of General Motors Asia Pacific.

These American business executives will join their ABAC counterparts from other Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) economies to advise APEC Leaders on issues affecting the continued growth of the region’s economy. ABAC, created in 1995, consists of three business representatives from each APEC economy chosen by their APEC Leader. ABAC meets throughout the year to discuss policy recommendations, undertake activities to promote trade and investment, and report annually to APEC Leaders. Henretta and Scher replace Spencer Kim of the CBOL Corporation and Michael Phillips of the Russell Investment Group.

Ms. Henretta is a member of the Singapore Economic Development Board and The Committee of 200, an invitation only membership organization that consists of some of the most successful women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders in the world. In both 2007 and 2008, Ms. Henretta was named one of Fortune magazine’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Global Business.

Mr. Scher oversees the JP Morgan’s state, federal and international government relations efforts. Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase in 2008, Mr. Scher was the Managing Partner of the Washington, D.C. office of Mayer Brown LLP, one of the largest law firms in the world. Mr. Scher chaired Mayer Brown’s Government and Global Trade Practice, managing the practice in the United States, the European Union and Asia. The Chambers Legal Guide selected him as one of the “Leading Lawyers” for 2005, 2006, and 2007. Mr. Scher also served as the U.S. Special Trade Ambassador in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and as Chief of Staff in both the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) is the premier organization for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade, and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the APEC structure, the United States and 20 other of the world’s leading economies come together to facilitate economic integration and tackle a wide range of issues critical to ensuring regional prosperity and economic security.
