Seeking Your Input

National Marine Sanctuaries are seeking your participation for the following activities:

NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries has released an interim policy and permit guidance for submarine cable projects that are proposed in national marine sanctuaries. This action identifies the criteria the ONMS will use to ensure that applications to install and maintain submarine cables in sanctuaries are reviewed consistently and in a manner that adheres to the National Marine Sanctuaries Act and ONMS regulations. NOAA is soliciting public comments to be considered if received on or before May 21, 2009. Click here for a copy of the Federal Register notice.

The Monitor National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will hold a public meeting May 19, 2009, at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, N.C. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a public comment period at 11:30 a.m. NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries manages the sanctuary. Click here to view the press release.

Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary proposes to regulate spearfishing gear in the sanctuary. Click here for the notice of proposed rulemaking published in the Federal Register. A draft environmental assessment on the proposed rule can be downloaded from the sanctuary's web site. Comments on the proposed rule and draft environmental assessment will be considered if received on or before May 4, 2009.

Advisory Councils
A Sanctuary Advisory Council is a community-based advisory group consisting of representatives from various user groups, government agencies and the public at large.

Volunteers help to ensure marine sanctuaries remain America's underwater treasures for future generations.
