People gather around a marketplace damaged in a car bomb explosion in Baghdad, Iraq, 06 May 2009 |
Iraqi police say a car bomb exploded in southern Baghdad, killing at least 10 people and wounding 37 others.
Police say the bomb went off early Wednesday in a crowded vegetable market in Baghdad's Doura neighborhood.
The bombing is the third such attack in Baghdad this week. Two car bombs exploded near the Iraqi Oil Ministry in Baghdad Monday, killing four people and wounding seven others.
A rise in violence has prompted concern about whether Iraqi forces are ready to take over security responsibilities.
A security agreement between the U.S. and Iraq calls for American forces to pull back from cities by the end of June and from the rest of the country by the end of 2011. U.S. President Barack Obama has said he will withdraw all American combat troops from Iraq by the end of August 2010. Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
