Nearly $13.5 Million Approved In Disaster Aid In Wisconsin

West Salem, WI -- Federal and state disaster recovery programs have disbursed nearly $13.5 million dollars to date to individuals and government entities located in the State of Wisconsin. President Bush's May 11, disaster declaration made residents and business owners in 18 counties eligible for disaster assistance. Units of government in 32 counties affected by flooding and tornadoes also received grant funds.
The breakdown is as follows:
- More than $1.5 million in disaster housing grants have been distributed to almost 1,500 people to meet short--term rental needs or make essential home repairs.
- More than $5.6 million in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have been issued to 262 homeowners or renters. SBA has issued 65 loans totaling nearly $2 million to businesses.
- More than $290, 000 in grants to 124 people have been issued to date from the Individual and Family Grant Program (IFG), funded 75 percent by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and 25 percent by the State.
- More than $4 million has been obligated by the Public Assistance (Infrastructure) Program in aid to reimburse 75 percent of the eligible costs of rebuilding the damaged infrastructure. This includes debris removal, approved costs of emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement or restoration of flood and tornado damaged public facilities, such as roads and bridges, buildings, parks, water control facilities and utilities. It is estimated the 32 eligible counties will submit approximately $16 million in costs for payment over the next months.
Homeowners, renters and businesses in the designated counties who have not registered may call FEMA toll free 1--800-- 462--9029. The TTY number for the hearing or speech--impaired is 1--800 462--7585. Individuals and businesses have until 6 p.m. Friday, August 10 to apply for grants and loans made available under the President's declaration.
