Volcano Update from Archive

Seismic activity at Kasatochi volcano has declined significantly since the eruptions on August 7. No activity has been observed in satellite data since August 12. Therefore AVO is lowering the aviation color code from ORANGE to YELLOW and the Alert Level from Watch to Advisory.
Kasatochi Volcano does not have a seismic network, thus AVO depends on networks on neighboring islands to monitor activity there. For this reason, low-level seismic activity may not be detected. Renewed volcanic activity is possible at any time with little or no warning. New volcanic debris along the coastline of Kasatochi Island may be unstable and the island should be approached with caution.Photos of the island from September 3 show a vigorous gas and steam plume.New volcanic debris along the coastline of Kasatochi Island may be unstable and the island should be approached with caution.Photos of the island from September 3 show a vigorous gas and steam plume.
