Cameras
- Lens Shutter - this feature helps keep the lens clean.
- Low Lux Capability - improves visibility in low light conditions.
- Water Resistant - intended for outdoor use.
- Heated Lens - eliminates frost on the lens.
- Adjustable field of view - allows zooming in/out for best coverage.
- Shock mounted - prevents internal circuit damage and camera jitter.
- Microphone - used to hear backup the alarm, spotter's commands, and emergency audibles.
- Voltage should be compatible with the
power source in vehicle - most commercial cameras are 12 volts,
much equipment is 24 volts.
Monitors
- Brightness and Contrast Control - reduces glare on inside cab windows at night.
- Switchable mirror (reverse) image - duplicates look into a rearview mirror.
- Distance Markings on Screen - enables operator to estimate distances from equipment.
- Convenient location for camera selection control - Operator not required to reach for controls.
- Automatic switching to rearview when vehicle is in reverse - eliminates operator manually switching to rear camera.
- Color monitor - may offer better contrast of objects.
- Different monitor sizes - larger monitors do not display more information.
- Automatic brightness control - automatically adjusts monitor at night to prevent glare.
- Day/night setting - adjusts brightness/contrast for optimal day/night operation.
- Voltage should be compatible with power source in vehicle (see cameras, last item).
- LCD vs CRT - LCD is a smaller and lighter
unit.
Wire Harnesses
- High quality positively secured connections - Typically these harnesses use military grade and water resistant connectors.
- Protective over wrap - prevents damage to wire insulation.
- Chemical and heat resistant cables - increases service life.
- Over-current protection - this is important in any electrical circuit to prevent over heating the wiring and creating an ignition source.
- Connectors designed to facilitate troubleshooting and replacement - direct plugging of the camera into the monitor when troubleshooting eliminates the need to splice wires to troubleshoot.
