Charleston

Up one level Picture of Boater Training

FLETC-Charleston is situated on the site of the former Charleston Naval Base in South Carolina. It is one of three FLETC residential training sites in the U.S. The facility officially entered the FLETC inventory in 2003 when the FLETC transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.

Near and long-range plans for FLETC-Charleston call for continued construction and renovation to accommodate an array of Partner Organization training. Facilities devoted to maritime law enforcement training are a central feature of the FLETC-Charleston asset mix. FLETC-Charleston's newest training facilities include modular mat rooms, boat boarding platforms, shipboard simulators, and an indoor 25-point, 50 yard firearms range. Other facilities at FLETC-Charleston resemble those found at Glynco and FLETC-Artesia.

The facility can accommodate 506 students in the three dormitories, and the dining facility can seat 1,000 students and staff in a 60-minute time frame. The serving lines offer students a wide variety of nutritionally balanced meals.

In December 2004, the U.S. Coast Guard officially consolidated its Maritime Law Enforcement School and its Boarding Team Member School into a new Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Academy at FLETC-Charleston. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Federal Probation and Pretrial Services established its academy at FLETC-Charleston in January 2005.
