The National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality (AHRQ) will meet on Friday, April 3. The council provides
advice to AHRQ's director and to the Secretary of the Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS) on matters related to AHRQ. The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin with an update on the Agency's current research, programs, and initiatives.
The Council also will discuss the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and its investment in the AHRQ comparative effectiveness research program. The Recovery Act provides $1.1 billion for comparative effectiveness research: $300 million for AHRQ, $400 million for National Institutes of Health (NIH), and $400 million for the HHS Office of the Secretary. Public comment on AHRQ's comparative effectiveness program will be taken at approximately 11:30 a.m. In the afternoon, the Council will hear an update on the AHRQ Patient Safety portfolio and discuss future strategies.
