U.S. College Catalog Fair -- Education/Training Services | ||||
|
||||
Event Summary: | ||||
Japan ranked second for the number of students enrolled in IEP (Intensive English Programs) in 2007. It ranked fourth as the country of origin for international students in higher educational institutions in the U.S. In the 2007/08 school year, 33,974 Japanese students enrolled. Roughly 70% of these were in undergraduate programs. However, the number of Japanese students enrolling in US higher education is in decline. A big challenge that prospective students who wish to enroll in colleges in the U.S. face is the English proficiency requirement. New high school graduates seldom achieve the TOEFL scores that are required to pursue full academic courses in the U.S.The availability of ESL programs will encourage students to apply who might otherwise shy away from seeking a U.S. college education because of their low TOEFL scores.
CS Tokyo and the Education Team will set up this catalog fair to introduce to young Japanese people to those U.S. colleges and universities that offer ESL programs. The fair will be a part of a big Study in the USA event organized by Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. It will provide US schools with a concrete opportunity to promote their programs to the Japanese student and their parents who will be attending the event.
The fair will be held at Akasaka Sacas, 5-3-1 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Akasaka Sacas http://sacas.net/guide/index.html) is a new landmark space adjacent to the busy Akasaka Mitsuke subway station. Surrounded by TBS TV station and fashionable shops and restaurants, it attracts a lot of young people all year around, especially on weekends and holidays.
TBS estimates that 50,000 60,000 people pass Akasaka Sacas every day, and TBS further believes that about 5,000 of them will visit/join an event that is taking place in Sacas on a weekend. |
