Subject: Clarification Concerning NIH Loan Repayment Programs

Dear Julie:

In response to a question posed by Dr. Saumil Merchant at your recent TB Histopathology Workshop, I would appreciate if you would email the workshop participants the following clarification concerning the NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Programs ( LRPs ):

Eligibility for the LRPs is predicated on a 50% (20-hour per week) time commitment to research during the two-year period of educational loan repayment by the NIH. An applicant's research must be funded by a nonprofit or a government entity; research funding from one's academic (or nonacademic) department is acceptable, as long as the employer is nonprofit.

Thanks for disseminating this information.

Dan
