Kirk Cordell

Kirk Cordell was named NCPTT’s new executive director in July of 2002. With more than 25 years of experience in the National Park Service, he has served in a number of preservation-related positions during his career. Prior to coming to the Center, he served as the Chief of all Park Cultural Resources programs in the Southeast Region. Early in his career with NPS, he served in the region’s SHPO Program Review and Preservation Tax Incentives programs. He became Chief of Cultural Resources Planning in 1987 and served in a variety of management roles, including a stint as Associate Field Director for Resources Management, before assuming responsibility for the region’s park cultural programs in 1996. Prior to coming to NPS, he served as an architectural historian for the Louisiana SHPO.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Cordell was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in architectural history, and completed graduate work in architectural history and preservation planning at Cornell University.
