Agriculture has been an integral part of the development and growth of the United States. Because agriculture was so important, the development of the agrarian unit was also of the utmost importance.
Students will analyze photographs of historic buildings, categorize them according to similar characteristics, and identify their various architectural styles.
Graveyards can be excellent resources for studying art, language, social and family history, cultural landscapes, and even the natural sciences.
Cemeteries are universal in all settlements and are excellent historic sites that can be used to study culture, explore the physical and economic growth of a city, and aid in the study of architectural styles. New Orleans has more than forty cemeteries within the reach of the immediate urban and suburban areas. An exploration of more than one cemetery will allow the students to compare and contrast many elements of culture.
An exciting aspect of the Heritage Education program at NCPTT is the emergence of a heritage education model. A pattern in the teacher-developed heritage education lesson plans has been detected.
