» February 11, 2004 - Commission, Coast Guard, DOT Sign Interagency Agreement to Coordinate Review of LNG Terminal Safety, Security News Release
Overview
In 2003, interest in constructing additional LNG import terminals led to public concern regarding the safety of the terminals and the associated LNG vessel traffic. In an effort to address these and other related issues, the FERC, the DOT’s Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA), and the US Coast Guard entered into an Interagency Agreement for the Safety and Security Review of Waterfront Import/Export Liquefied Natural Gas Facilities. This agreement, among other things, delineates the roles and responsibilities of each agency relative to LNG terminals and LNG tanker operations.
