An Annotated Bibliography
Riparian communities, vegetative zones associated with rivers and streams, are critically important habitats, especially in arid or semi-arid situations, such as the American West. Plants and animals reach far greater levels of diversity and abundance there than in nearby habitats. In addition, riparian areas provide enormous benefits for agriculture, recreation, and other economic activities. These divergent values have resulted in serious impacts to many riparian areas and have pointed to the need for careful and considered management.
This bibliography is intended to help those interested in riparian areas, particularly in the western United States.
