Graduate Studies Program - Open Source Officers

Our co-op program seeks motivated students pursuing graduate degrees in an area study specialty (e.g., Latin America, Middle East, etc), International Relations or Journalism to work as Open Source Officers (OSO). OSO's are the Intelligence Community's foreign media experts. OSOs collect intelligence from these media and deliver high-impact products to policymakers, negotiators, military planners, and analysts throughout the US foreign affairs community. You will have an opportunity to contribute to the full range of OSO activities by using your foreign language and area knowledge to develop an understanding of how information collected from foreign open media sources contributes to the intelligence mission. You may draft informational and analytical products; edit translated materials for linguistic and grammatical accuracy; and produce translations of text, audio, and video information. You may also select materials from the media for translation by independent contractors. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to meet with customers in the U.S. intelligence and policy communities provide language and information services in response to customer requests.
