International Affairs and Global Health Security

Overview

The International Affairs and Global Health Security (IAGHS) office facilitates OHA international and global health security-related activities by collecting and sharing lessons learned and best practices from various international sources and is charged with overseeing the Department’s Global Health Security activities.

Organization and Functionality

IAGHS is a supporting division within OHA, playing both an advisory and coordinating role at all levels. This division provides international expertise and support to the three primary offices of OHA—Weapons of Mass Destruction and Biodefense, Medical Readiness, and Component Services and Workforce Health Protection. IAGHS interfaces with several Federal agencies—including the U.S. Department of State (DOS), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Agriculture (USDA), Health and Human Services (HHS), and others as appropriate—to obtain information that can be shared among its international partners. IAGHS further ensures relevant international-related decision support to the OHA and Department leadership and facilitates timely and effective communication with international partners during crises or threats.
