The United States Committee of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (US/ICOMOS) will honor the memory of its former Board Member and distinguished Fellow Saidee Watson Newell by naming the first public lecture of the “US/ICOMOS International Preservation Lecture Series” in her honor.

Anna Johnson, a high-school junior at the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, took NCPTT research to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, Atlanta, Ga. on May 11-16.

On Aug. 9, NCPTT, Cane River Creole National Historical Park and Cane River National Heritage Area hosted the seventh annual Preservation In Your Community event at Nelson Hall in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

NCPTT’s Executive Director attended the Preserve America awards ceremony at the White House on May 9.

On May 23, NCPTT’s Architecture and Engineering program partnered with Barrett Kennedy of LSU College of Art and Design to document Front Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana, using a high-resolution digital camera. The City provided a hi-lift and a mobile traffic barrier.

NCPTT’s oversight committee, the PTT Board, met in Natchitoches, La., April 4-5.

NCPTT will present two workshops in June featuring high-level technology in the archeology field.

The Cane River National Heritage Area awarded $175,000 in 2001 to 12 programs and individuals for research, development and historic preservation projects. Among these, the American Cemetery Association was awarded a $35,000 grant to restore the American Cemetery located in the National Historic Landmark District of Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The paper focused on the archeological and social implications of the translation of historic French documents spanning 1780-1810.
