Financial Responsibility

The Financial Responsibility Unit of the Diplomatic Motor Vehicles program (DMV) is charged by the Congress of the United States with ensuring that all vehicles owned or operated by members of the diplomatic community maintain third-party automobile liability insurance as outlined in the Foreign Missions Act of 1982, as amended (Title 22, United States Code, Section 4301, et. seq., "the Act"). Under the act, the Secretary of State is required to ensure that all motor vehicles owned and operated by missions, members of the missions, and dependents of such mission members maintain the minimum third-party liability coverage mandated by the Office of Foreign Missions listed below.

-- $300,000 combined single limit, or

-- Split limits (for vehicles) of

   o  $100,000 Bodily Injury/Person
   o  $300,000 Bodily Injury/Accident
   o  $100,000 Properly Damage/Accident
     -- Split limits (for motorcycles) of

   o  $100,000 Bodily Injury/Person
   o  $300,000 Bodily Injury/Accident
   o  $50,000 Property Damage/Accident
