WATER-RESOURCES CONDITIONS IN

NEW YORK

APRIL 2001

U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, WRD New York District, Troy, NY WATER RESOURCES REVIEW AND CURRENT CONDITIONS STATEMENT FOR APRIL 2001 Prepared May 1, 2001 Troy Subdistrict--Summary Report Provisional streamflow conditions at sites monitored and included in this report in eastern New York were in the excessive range except at Wallkill River at Gardiner and Wappinger Creek near Wappingers Falls. Mean flows at these 2 sites were in the normal range after being in the excessive range last month. After the first week of April, unseasonably warm temperatures caused rapid snowmelt, especially in the higher elevations. The percent of median flow at all sites that were in the deficient range last month in- creased by at least 90% from March to April and conditions were now in the excessive range. Ithaca Subdistrict--Summary Report Provisional streamflow conditions at sites monitored and included in this report for western New York were in the normal range at Allegheny River at Salamanca, Tonawanda Creek at Batavia, Cattaraugus Creek at Gowanda, and Oatka Creek at Garbutt. Sites at Susquehanna River at Conklin, Unadilla River at Rockdale, Chemung River at Chemung, Chenango River at Chenango Forks, Genesee River at Wellsville, and Fall Creek near Ithaca were in the excessive range. Coram Subdistrict--Summary Report Mean flow at Connetquot Brook near Central Islip was in the excessive range for the second consecutive month. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
