House Passes Economic Recovery Bill
Washington DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved an essential economic recovery bill that is expected to create over 91,000 jobs in Minnesota.  The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1) is designed to invest in public infrastructure projects that will generate millions of jobs nationwide, and this legislation will also invest in numerous programs that will assist states, local governments and individuals who have been  impacted by the recession.

Recovery Bill Will Generate Minnesota Jobs

Washington DC –   An analysis of the economic recovery bill before Congress concludes that the legislation could create or save thousands of jobs in Minnesota and keep unemployment down.  The study of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was performed by Mark Zandi, the chief economist of Moody's Economy.com.  Zandi was an economic advisor to former presidential candidate John McCain.

Congress Acts to Close Loopholes in Bank Rescue Package

Washington DC - Today, the House of Representatives took action to improve the financial rescue program that was passed last year.  The House approved H.R. 384, the TARP Reform and Accountability Act, to amend the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) provisions of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

House Passes Fair Wage Legislation

Washington DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work.  The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (H.R. 11) and the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 12) will close a number of loopholes and enact reforms to make it more difficult for employers to pay workers less because of their sex or their race.
