WASHINGTON, DC-- Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued this comment today upon passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

"The current economic crisis requires bold solutions that address the enormity of our economic woes, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan will do just that. It will blunt the effects of the recession and help families in need, it will create millions of jobs and make key infrastructure investments in our future," Rep. Maloney said.

WASHINGTON, DC—Rep Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), applauded House passage today, by vote of 250 - 177, of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

“The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act overrules the outrageous Supreme Court decision which rejected Ms. Ledbetter’s pay discrimination case because she hadn’t sued quickly enough. It makes every paycheck that underpays a woman a new offense,” Rep. Maloney said.

WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued this statement upon President Obama’s announcement today to repeal the “global gag rule.”

“President Obama, in his first days, is well on his way to reversing 8 years of misguided policy,” Rep. Maloney said. “In repealing the global gag rule, President Obama has stopped the export of our divisive politics and renewed the export of our rights and values of free speech and expression. I proudly stand with him and will work within Congress to increase funding for family planning services abroad so that women’s lives may be treated with the respect they deserve-- and help achieve our overall foreign policy goals of increasing democracy abroad,” Maloney concluded.
