Online Training Initiative Status
A Requirements Analysis was performed to determine the expectations of NSDI Administration and the NSDI-related training needs of Focus Audience Organizations including USGS State Liaisons and state, local, and tribal governments. The NSDI Training Program Requirements Analysis Report summarizes these expectations and needs and outlines a core curriculum for the NSDI Training Program.
Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) were identified to develop a set of lessons for each of the curriculum topics. Initial content development is focused on the development of introductory lessons for each of the topics. The lessons are developed using PowerPoint software and are available for use as completed. Users are encouraged to utilize these lessons as both online learning and classroom resources and to provide feedback on the content and value of the lessons. Suggestions for combining lessons into training courses and workshops are provided.
Online Learning System (OLS) technology is currently under evaluation by the FGDC. Once an OLS is implemented, the PowerPoint formatted lessons will be converted to OLS modules and additional interactive training features such as student registration, simulations, and exercises will be developed.
