Canada’s Geomatics/Geospatial Market: The geomatics/ geospatial industry is one of Canada’s fastest growing areas of the information / knowledge-based economy. Strong growth is forecast in the areas of land administration, sustainable resource management and business decision-making, especially location-based decision-making. GIS and remote sensing hold the promise of substantial growth. Municipalities are increasingly using geomatics in their urban planning and capital project development. Geomatics is also playing a crucial and growing role in disaster forecasting, mitigation and recovery efforts, global warming and environmental monitoring.

The sector is multidisciplinary in nature, and its strength is gained from an extensive collaboration between the private sector, various levels of government and academic institutions. It is an evolving industry, providing excellent opportunities for U.S. Geomatics/Geospatial companies in Canada.
