Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Illinois, 1987
In 1985, Ms. Arnold began work with the USGS Illinois Water Science Center as a student Cartographic Aid preparing thematic maps, graphs, and illustrations for the publication section. Illustrations and mapping were done mostly using hand-drawing techniques.
From June 1987 to June 1988, Ms. Arnold was a cartographer for the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency, Hydrographic Topographic Center (now named National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency)
in Washington, DC. Her duties at the Agency included the compilation of topographic maps from stereo images and editing/correcting the work of contractors.
In July 1991, Ms. Arnold rejoined the USGS Illinois Water Science Center. From 1991 to 1997, she was the cartographer and illustrator for the publications section. At this time, she also served as the GIS Specialist for the Center. In September 1997, Ms. Arnold was assigned to the upper Illinois River Basin study unit of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) program as GIS Specialist, database administrator, and archive custodian for the project.
Ms. Arnold is GIS specialist for the NAWQA program's regional study of ground-water status and trends in the glacial aquifer system of the Northern United States. She is using statistical and geospatial analysis to map hydrochemical regions of the glacial aquifer system and to model nitrate concentrations in ground water from private wells in the aquifer system. Ms. Arnold also provides GIS and web support for other NAWQA regional studies of principal aquifers in the United States.
Illinois GIS Association (1995 to 2007) -- Board member (2004-2005). Participate on discussion panels, moderate conference sessions, and serve on nominations and conference planning committees.
