Nationwide Cemetery Preservation Summit

Cemetery Basics Workshop 2007, Hot Springs, Arkansas

NCPTT is soliciting oral and poster presentations that focus on research and innovation in cemetery conservation and preservation for the NCPTT’s Nationwide Cemetery Preservation Summit to be held in Nashville, Tenn., October 19-21, 2009. Topics for presentation may include recent developments in technologies, unique treatments, and creative solutions. Additionally, presentations make explore future directions in cemetery preservation as well as current gaps in research and understanding of issues. Presentations will be reviewed and selected by NCPTT staff. Speakers will be offered a reduced registration fee.

Additionally, NCPTT is seeking preservation professionals who may wish to offer half day hands-on workshops at the Summit. More details are given below.

Proposals for presentations should be submitted as extended abstracts. There are two categories of presentations: oral presentations and poster presentations.

Oral presentations

Talks will be 25 minutes in duration, including questions. Please submit an abstract of no less than 500 words (excluding figures and references). Abstract should contain: presenter’s full contact information (name, title, organization, address, phone, fax, email), and a 100-word biography for the author and each co-author. We recommend no more than two presenters per paper. Suggested key issues, topics, and concepts of papers may address include but are not limited to:

• Mapping and Documentation
• Landscapes
• Engineering Challenges
• Issues in National Cemeteries
• Materials Conservation
  • Stone
  • Masonry
  • Wood
  • Metals

Abstract deadline is May 1, 2009.

Email notification of accepted presentations will be sent on June 1, 2009.  Presentations addressing similar topics will be combined into sessions. Each session will include four presentations.

Poster presentations

Posters should be approximately 36 x 40 inches, landscape. Please submit an abstract of no less than 500 words (excluding figures and references). Abstract should contain: main presenter’s full contact information (name, title, organization, address, phone, fax, email). Suggested key issues, topics, and concepts of papers may address include but are not limited to:

Abstract deadline is May 1, 2009.

Email notification of accepted poster presentations will be sent on June 1, 2009.

Workshop proposals

Workshops will be held on October 21, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop location will be determined by the workshop’s subject matter. Workshop proposals must include a 500 word abstract. Abstract should contain: main presenter’s full contact information (name, title, organization, address, phone, fax, email) as well as details of all treatments proposed including techniques and products used. Please include information regarding the intended audience for the workshop, what the participants will gain from attending, and the maximum number of participants for the workshop.

May 1:  Deadline for applications, proposals for oral and poster presentations
June 1: Announce accepted presentations, post schedule
June 10: Confirmation from presenters
June 17: Announce program
June 24: Deadline for applications for Student Discounted Rate
July 1: Confirmation of Student rates
September 6: Early Registration ($299) ends
September 7 to October 18: Full Registration of $399

Submission guidelines

• All accepted proposals must be presented at the conference by at least one author.
• Authors of an accepted presentation must provide an abstract of no less than 500 words (not including diagrams, figures, and references) for publication in the conference proceedings.
• We welcome student participation in the summit.  The number of students registering at the discounted Student rate ($99) is limited to five.  Other students may register at the regular rates.
• Submissions whose main purpose is to promote a commercial product or service will not be accepted.
