The Department of Homeland Security participates in a number of events throughout the year. The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) participate in events to reach out to the public and disseminate knowledge regarding new technologies that help homeland security officials better do their jobs to protect the homeland. The following events include participation from the Department Directorate for Science and Technology.

April 2009

National Hurricane Conference

Dates:
April 8-9, 2009

Location: Austin, Texas

Event Overview: The primary goal of the National Hurricane Conference is to improve hurricane preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation in order to save lives and property in the United States and the tropical islands of the Caribbean and Pacific. In addition, the conference serves as a national forum for federal, state and local officials to exchange ideas and recommend new policies to improve Emergency Management. Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Expo

Dates: April 8-9, 2009

Location: Oaks, Pa.

Event Overview: A premier regional exposition aimed at one of the largest law enforcement audiences in the nation. Fire Department Instructors Conference

Dates: April 23-25, 2009

Location: Indianapolis, Ind.

Event Overview: The Fire Department Instructors Conference is billed as the world's largest firefighter training conference and is synonymous with world-class firefighter training. The event is universally recognized as the premiere fire industry conference and exhibition. The event provides comprehensive training for today's serious firefighter and brings top companies to showcase the latest tools and technology designed to save lives, all in one venue. Navy League Sea Air and Space

Dates: May 4-6, 2009

Location: Alexandria, Va.

Event Overview: The Navy League's Sea-Air-Space Exposition is the largest maritime exposition in the world, featuring more than 150 defense industry exhibits and professional seminars with top civilian and military leaders from the U.S. Department of Defense, Homeland Security, Maritime Administration and the defense industry who provide up-to-the-minute developments on policy and programs of the maritime services. Mid-South Law Enforcement

Dates: May 6-7, 2009

Location: Jackson, Tenn.

Event Overview: The Mid-South Law Enforcement Expo is for officers and administrators responsible for evaluating products, equipment and services utilized by their departments and agencies. IEEE International Conference on Technology and Homeland Security

Dates: May 11-12, 2009

Location: Waltham, Mass.

Event Overview: The ninth annual IEEE International Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security will focus on novel and innovative technologies, which address some of the most pressing national security problems. The conference will bring together 500 innovators from leading universities, research laboratories, Homeland Security Centers of Excellence, small businesses, system integrators and the end user community to provide a forum to discuss ideas, concepts and experimental results. The conference will also feature a business panel featuring Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate's new technology commercialization business model, the SECURE program. CFED-West

Dates: May 13-15

Location: Palm Springs, Calif.

Event Overview: CFED-West Conference and Expo is California's lone "all risk" responder symposium. NDIA, Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate Stakeholders Conference - East

Dates: May 18-21, 2009

Location: Washington, D.C.

Event Overview: This important event is presented by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) with subject matter support provided by the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) of the Department of Homeland Security. The conference goals include:

  • Presenting the S&T Directorate's organization, vision, and key initiatives;
  • Showcasing the key partnerships;
  • Getting input from S&T stakeholders on the future of the Directorate;
  • Explaining how to do business with the Department S&T research enterprise, and much more.
