The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) sponsors an annual award to recognize law enforcement agencies that have developed creative and effective volunteer programs. The award recognizes agencies that most exemplify the goals, concepts, and spirit of volunteerism in action. The 2009 Outstanding Achievement in Law Enforcement Volunteer Programs Award will be presented at the 116th annual IACP Conference in Denver, Colorado in October 2009. The application deadline is May 15, 2009.

New Items Posted to the VIPS Resource Library
Over 20 new items have been added to the VIPS Resource Library. The VIPS Resource Library provides sample documents, including application forms, policies, procedures and volunteer handbooks, from registered programs throughout the country.

Update on the President's Volunteer Service Award
The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation announced today that the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is now available for 2009 hours.

VIPS Analysis of Registered Programs
The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program has released an instrument to help the VIPS Program gain a greater understanding of the state of law enforcement volunteering. This analysis will gather information from established programs on promising approaches, programmatic challenges, and resource needs and help us to continually improve services to the VIPS programs.
To date, more than 1,890 law enforcement volunteer programs, representing more than 221,000 volunteers have registered.
