Puerto Rico Quarter Lesson Plans

Overview

Do you know that we have a collection of lesson plans based on the Puerto Rico quarter?

Activity

The District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarter Program lesson plans are now available on the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site for you to use in your classroom!  Take a look at the lesson plans created specifically to celebrate the Puerto Rico quarter:  "Isle of Shapes" (K and 1), "Rainforest Writers" (2 and 3), and "Absolutely and Relatively" (4 through 6).  After that, check out the rest of the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories plans that are FREE to download, and are available in sets designed specifically for grades K and 1, 2 and 3, and 4 through 6.

Make a "Connection"

The Puerto Rico quarter features the island's motto, "Isla del Encanto."  This Spanish phrase means "Isle of Enchantment."  Have students learn more about state mottos by visiting the "Time to Honor" Teacher Feature.  This Teacher Feature helps students understand the importance of famous quotes and mottos.

To have students learn more about state mottos and nicknames, visit "A State by Any Other Name."  Students will describe the purposes and origins of state nicknames as well as identify and describe the meanings of these state's nicknames.  Research your home state as a class or assign students to small groups or pairs to research different states.
