Native American $1 Coin Program Lesson Plans

The Native American $1 Coin Program brings the history of American Indians to life.  Slated to last at least as long as the 10-year Presidential $1 Coin Program, a series of designs will be released, one each year, depicting Native American people and events that helped to shape the United States.  The order of the designs will be as close as possible to the order in which the events happened.

The number of $1 coins made every year (including both Presidential and Native American) will be based on the nation's needs for this coin.  Of the total number of $1 coins produced every year, at least 20 percent will be the Native American design for that year.

For educators, the United States Mint offers a set of free lesson plans (for Kindergarten through sixth grades) based on the new coin designs.  What a great opportunity to connect history with the coins in the very pockets of your students!
