Chemical Hazards Program

Over 320,000 mine workers and more than 6 million workers in other U.S. industries are exposed to significant amounts of trace toxic substances, ultra-fine particles, and metals. The Chemical Hazards Program addresses these hazards by developing standardized analytic methods, characterizing chemical constituents and particle size effects, and developing monitoring methods for exposure assessment, especially concerning emerging technologies.
