US Government-Funded IOM Clinics to Provide Primary Health Care for Sri Lanka's Displaced

Sri Lanka - IOM engineers have completed the first of ten primary health care centres at the rapidly expanding Menik Farm displacement camp in Vavuniya, the government-controlled district southwest of Mullaitivu, where fighting between the government and LTTE Tamil Tigers continues.

Another 36 Trafficked Children Rescued by IOM and its Partners
Since 2002, IOM has rescued 684 children who had been trafficked to work with fishermen in Ghana, West Africa. The children, trafficked for forced or bonded labour into fishing communities in Kete-Krachi and Yeji along the shores of Ghana's Lake Volta had been sold for little money by impoverished parents in the belief that the children would be adequately fed, educated and taught a useful trade.  » More

Individuals considering migrating for whatever purpose or destination should take extreme caution in dealing with internet offers or email marketing in light of recent surge in fraudulent schemes. These schemes seek to extract money from migrants by claiming their programme is under the auspices of the destination country, lawyers’ associations, IOM, the United Nations or other humanitarian organizations.
