11044300 SANTA MARGARITA RIVER AT FPUD SUMP NEAR FALLBROOK, CA — WEBCAM

Webcam home This webcam is located near the USGS stream-gaging station on the Santa Margarita River at FPUD Sump near Fallbrook (see map). The webcam allows for remote monitoring of the river in the area of the Sandia Creek Road crossing. The webcam's visual record of flooding and other river events provides valuable research data for the USGS. The gage is 0.3 miles upstream from the confluence with Sandia Creek and provides continuous monitoring of certain river and environmental conditions such as flow, stage, and precipitation. Here, the river is partially regulated by Vail Lake and Skinner Reservoir, plus diversion discharges, at times, into upstream Murietta Creek. This webcam installation is part of the USGS Multi-Hazards Demonstration Project.

Sandia Creek Drive Crossing

Sandia Creek Drive Crossing This overflow bridge is designed to allow a flooding river to pass over it. Such bridges are common for flashy rivers on rural roads. This bridge begins to overflow when the river stage reaches roughly 4.75 ft. At such times, the road may become impassable. In addition to research benefits, this webcam provides for remote monitoring of dangerous road conditions.

USGS Gaging Station

Santa Margarita River Gage This houses the electronic equipment which continuously records certain river and environmental parameters. These data are transmitted in real time to the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) where it is used by researchers, state and local agencies, emergency managers, and the general public.
