Construction Safety

The Office of Health, Safety and Security is responsible for the development and maintenance of guidance, standards and orders pertaining to the management of safety and health on DOE construction projects. These efforts are undertaken with the assistance of the DOE Construction Safety Advisory Committee, a topical committee chartered under the DOE Technical Standards Program. DOE's construction requirements are found in 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health Program, and DOE Order 440.1A, Worker Protection Management for DOE Federal and Contractor Employees. The Office of Health, Safety and Security works with OSHA's Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH) to develop draft regulatory language on proposed OSHA rulemaking activities impacting DOE operations. Office staff also represents DOE in the ANSI A10 national consensus standards committee for safety requirements for construction and demolition operations.
