Ecosystem Analysis

Researchers try to determine factors limiting populations of animal species, particularly migratory birds. They also study population dynamics and how changes in land use affect shorebirds and colonial waterbirds. They conduct inventories of birds and mammals and surveys of reptiles and amphibians in both tropical and temperate ecosystems.

Additionally, statisticians develop and apply structural equation modeling methods for application to the study of ecological processes and ecosystems. They also study population dynamics of long-lived animals. Work involves both the development of models and quantitative methodologies as well as empirical testing of theoretical models.
